Lake Mohawk is the largest man made lake in New Jersey, approximately 3 miles long, and 800 acres. The lake is private - only those who own property in Lake Mohawk have lake and country club rights. You'll see Lake Mohawk residents waterskiing, sailing, canoeing, or taking a leisurely ride in a power boat.

Byram Township, which is also located in Sussex County and borders Sparta Township, also has homes within the Lake Mohawk reservoir. Residents living in the Byram section of Lake Mohawk have a different tax structure and school system than Sparta.
